Why did you choose to go to Riga, Latvia?

Because there are a lot of Erasmus students, it is not a really known country, thus it is quite original, and because Latvia is well located to visit other countries like Sweden, Russia, Poland...

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The Erasmus grant is around €200 per month, but it depends on your country of origin.

What is the student lifestyle like in Riga?

There is not too much work, so students have a lot of time to travel and party. There are a lot of good bars in the Old Town where Erasmus students can meet. It is a small city compared to other capitals but it is very bustling.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Riga to other students?

I think it is a good city to study and have fun, even if it is quite small and not especially beautiful. The food and drinks are also cheap, so be prepared to drink a lot if you come to Riga!

So yes I would recommend it.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Riga?

The accommodation is really important and I suggest you to find a shared flat in the Old Town with foreign students as it will turn out to be cheaper, you can practice your English and it is easier to organize parties.

There are some Facebook groups to find flat offers, and you should try to find one before arriving in Riga, because there is a lot of demand for shared flats.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Riga?

The food is cheap and I find it good. For typical Latvian food, you can eat a big meal at LIDO for about €8.

There is also many cultural restaurants, like Uzbek food.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

A lot of interesting museums!
