Why did you choose to go to Riga, Latvia?

Because it was an opportunity for me to travel to the Baltic and Scandinavian countries, and also because a friend of mine, who was in Erasmus in Riga, had a great time here and recommended me this city for Erasmus.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship is 5 months and I receive 400€ Per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Riga?

It is a student life! It is really easy to make friends and to spend time with them. Be simple and have is the status quo in Riga.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Riga to other students?

Of course I would! It is a cheap country, you can be everyday out without spending a lot of money, and because of Riga is not a big city, it's really easy to meet students here, to have fun, make friends, travel to amazing destinations and feel like you are at home!

What is the food like?

You can find whatever you want. There are some places with really good Latvian food, but generally there are many choices for every type of food.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Riga?

In this part you should be lucky.. If you find a place from another student will be better, otherwise you should pay a commission to an agent to find a house for you...

How much does it cost to live in Riga?

It depends on your interests and your life... but generally life in Riga is not expensive...

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Some universities have Latvian lessons but for me Latvian is not a very easy language.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Riga from your city?

I am from Greece so I chose the airplane...

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Riga?

Rock cafe in the last floor, there is a DJ who plays really good music, club KV, Piens, Coyote club (it is a real club), and Folkklubs Ala Pagrabs for karaoke party: great beer and food.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Riga?

Lido is a good choice for Latvian food, Tokyo City for those who like sushi, city dinner, street fries kitchen.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

There are many things to see. Art nouveau streets, many museums, the national Opera, etc...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Riga in the future?

Try to learn at least two words in Latvian and people will love you. Latvians are not so extrovert but if you understand them and take the first step you will see a completely different behaviour.
