Iceland, it’s like another planet!
Iceland is definitely one of the more expensive countries to visit. Meals run about 20 $ per person at the very least. They do have some nightlife but mostly electronica clubs. The scenery of Iceland is very beautiful and varies drastically.
Towards the south of the island near Hvolsvöllur, you have a lot of open countryside.
Very beautiful. The only animals you see are cows and goats eating grass on the hillside. There are lots of mountains in the distance which of course you can see are snow-topped. The ground is mostly black soil and even the beaches near Vik are black sand.
When you get a little closer to the city of Reykjavik, the landscape starts to look more like the moon. It looks like meteor rocks have crashed onto the earth and covered Iceland’s surface.
Then of course you have the naturally occurring Blue Lagoon, which gets its color from the way silica reflects the sun.
All in all I highly recommend you visit Iceland at least once in your life. I suggest the summer months, which can still be kind of cold.
There are many attractions to see all over the island, however very few are advertised, just look for all the parked cars on the side of the road. Among its many features, you can discover crashed US Navy planes, waterfalls including one bigger than Niagra Falls, crater lakes, and geothermal pools. Transportation is limited to tour buses so I suggest renting a car.
Just remember, the terrain is rough so SUVs are recommended. No matter what time of year you go, dress warm! We went in August and had some rain, wind, cold days, and comfortable.
