i Know most people like to travel for pleasure, ok actually scratch that I think everyone travels for pleasure but we all find pleasure in different things ( please don’t take me the wrong way) anyway point being, many enjoy sightseeing, some enjoy learning about the history and culture ( which you should) and then there are people like me that travel for food. i basically travel so I can eat more cakes; no joke, don’t judge me I’m a sugar junkie. Anyhow so the first thing that I did before going to Prague was to check out which places I could eat in and the choices were endless however my time was limited so in this entry I will write about the Czech cuisines that I tried out in this local restaurant that we went to Which is incidently called Lokal :D I had heard a lot of things about it and there were raving reviews so I was like why not, let's go there.

Lokal Restaurant:

so imagine on the first day we left Budapest at around 6 something am and when we reached Prague we went to our Airbnb and by the time we left and came to the city center it was like 4-5 and we were famished. we had to walk for like 30 minutes and a couple of kilometers but we finally found it, at some point my family was about to give ua and just have burritos instead. I was like no please trust me we’ll get there anyhow we got there, and the restaurant was so large and full I mean completely full. Our hunger and frustration was doubled when we were told to wait because there were no empty tables and so we had to wait at the bar, the waiters were like you may have to wait for up to an hour but we were like all these people are bound to leave so let’s just stay. And surely enough we got a table in around 10 minutes or so.

The menu wasn’t too complicated and everything was in English, the manager is super nice and all the staff speak proper English, it’s great to be at a European Country where people Understand and speak proper English. Anyhow not trying to throw more shade here but yea. I‘ll Post the menu here so you guys can see the options for yourself before going there. We ordered lots of food, since we wanted to try everything.

I’m not a big meat lover, so I ordered a chicken breast, my mom ordered the creamy roast beef With cranberry sauce, my brother ordered the stake. We had also fried cheese and some potato dumplings on the side. the food didn’t take long to come and so we started to dig in. Soon enough the faces weren’t of happiness and satisfaction but of disappointment. I don’t know I guess I just expected the authentic cuisine to be better than this. Don’t get me wrong the quality of the food was good but the taste and the overall flavors? Not so much.

Let’s review them one by one. First of all my brother’s stake, costing around 15 euros or even more (375 kc) which is like a lot of money, first of the stake was pretty small and my brother really likes his stake well done and we told the waiter this. However when the steak came it was medium rare at its best and it really wasn’t that good, i mean it was super normal. Anyhow my chicken breast was basically like boiled chicken breast with some salted molten butter on top, honestly it was so so basic.. the best food was the creamy roast beef, the beef tasted really good and the stew it came with was very nice with some potato dumplings. The beer in lokal was really good and generally Czech beer is one of the world’s finest beers so be sure to try it. What else, hmm the fried cheese was normal as well, it was just a piece of cheese deep fried and there was absolutely nothing special about it. Anyhow I’m in no way undermining the restaurant I’m just saying the cuisine itself was really basic and not to appetizing. Of course Czech Republic is famous for its pork ribs and pork knuckle which since I don’t eat pork I didn’t try out. The final bill for us came out at 1100 kc which is exactly 50 dollars. The meal was definitely not worth 50 dollars but you can’t come to Prague without checking out Czech cuisine I mean! Anyhow I do think you should try Lokal out, there are 5 lokals across the city, we went to the one near the Charles Bridge but you should google the nearest one to you. I think lokal does provide good quality fairly priced meals so you wouldn’t lose anything.
