A Fairy tale in Prague
A Fairytale in Prague
Czech Republic was the fifth and the last destination in my first Euro Tour. Well the name of my blog might be suggesting that I had a perfect and happy stay there. But the truth is the other way round. When we reached Prague, It was already raining there and to add on it, I wasn’t feeling well at all. We somehow reached the apartment which we had book using air bnb. It was quite close to the bus station. I will never forget the way the owner described he address. “...go to the middle of the square and orientate your back to the Church. Walk in thedirection of 2 o’clock...”That walking in the direction of 2 o’clock was the best and perfect explanation of the street we needed to head towards.
The church he referred to was the Church of St. Ludmila. It is a neo-gothic Roman Catholic Church built in around 1890s and is named after the Czech Saint Ludmila. I would encourage the reader to read her story, how she married the Duke of Bohemia and how the couple later converted to Christianity. I couldn’t go inside the church but I would like to share the pictures of how it looked from outside.
We took rest for few hours and then decided to go and see the city. It was around 3 o clock and everything was already dark because of the rain. We decided to eat first as we were really hungry, we found this Afghani Restaurant called the Kabul Restaurant which was at walking distance from some of the main attraction.
The restaurant was very warm and comfortable. You could see the Afghan culture well there, the pictures, the sofas, the Persian Poetry on the walls and all the traditional decorations. I was craving for some vegetable food, so I ordered the Okra which is also known as Ladyfinger, along with some traditional bread. My friend opted for meat. Finally the hot food came with a nice aroma. I used to think that Afghani Cuisine was similar to the Pakistan/India’s food, but I found the taste quite different. There food is not as spicy and hot. Still it was good. I feel that the prices were bit higher but still I would recommend it just to experience something new.
We then went to see the Charles Bridge over Vltava River which is one of the most famous touristic and historic places in Prague. The bridge is decorated by numerous statues and is protected by towers. You would also see the wish locks nearby. The bridge once served as the most important land link between Prague Castle and the Old Town. It is also claimed that it was this bridge which made Prague an important trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. I would also recommend seeing the majestic St. Salvator Churchlocated at one end of the Charles Bridge.
It was getting really cold and we were not prepared accordingly so we went back to our place. We slept quite early as we had to catch our last buses to our respective homes in the morning. If I get a chance I would surely visit Prague again to do the justice with this beautiful city. So that’s how my 5 countries tour consisting of Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France and Czech Republic ended. May be I should call it 7-8 cities across Europe and not five countries because I was just visiting the main cities of these countries, but just to brag let’s keep it as Five Countries :D Well if I had to rank them Switzerland would definitely be at the top of my list, and may be then France, Italy, Spain and Czech Republic.
