Erasmus Experience in Poznan, Poland by Moraa
Why did you choose to go to Poznan, Poland?
It was part of my Erasmus Mundus mobility and I found the subjects in Poznan interesting.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I was in Poznan for almost one year, I received a stipend of 100 euros every month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Poznan?
Poznan is basically a student town so there are a lot of discounts and a lot of fun activities for students to choose from.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Poznan to other students?
Yes, it's an amazing experience, life is not so expensive and people and professors are very friendly and helpful. In addition most people speak English so if you dont know Polish you will get by just fine.
What is the food like?
The food is amazing with a lot cabbage (Kapusta-in Polish) in the menu. The food is also very cheap and the restaurants are quite nice.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Poznan?
If you do not stay in student accomodation and you need a flat, usually you need to pay agency fee. However, the apartments are quite nice and not so expensive if you share with friends or other Erasmus students.
How much does it cost to live in Poznan?
I would say between 500 euros will be more than enough to have a decent and great life in Poznan, Including going out and visiting some towns in Poland.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Polish language is offered by the University, at first it's very hard to pronounce and understand, but with time you get the hang of it and it's fun. I did not learn much polish though... hahaha.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Poznan from your city?
In Poznan all transport is cheap from taxis to the tram. The tram is quite good and very cheap. Students have a 50% discount on trams and all trains within Poland.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Poznan?
There are so many clubs in Poznan, I would recommend Arcyl club, but usually it depends with your taste of music or the day of the week. Usually there are several parties organized by different clubs.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Poznan in the future?
Poznan is amazing and people are very open to foreign students. So just be open minded and make friends with Polish friends, just dont stick with your Erasmus friends.
