Erasmus experience in Poznan, Poland
Why did you choose to go to Poznan, Poland?
In my university i had the option to go to Poland or to Spain. Since i'm from Portugal, it seemed more interesting to go to a country more different from Portugal.
Among all the Polish cities i could choose, Poznan was by far the best place, both to live and to study, and i had very good references from other students that had been previsouly there.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship was for a semester. I received about 1700 euros.
What is the student lifestyle like in Poznan?
It's great, people are very helpfull and the university conditions are almost perfect!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Poznan to other students?
I would recommend it very much!
What is the food like?
Well, that was the odd part. Portuguese food is very different; to have lunch at the university cantine was always an adventure, but there were some good suprises.
Otherwise there are a lot of traditional "junk food" places, that are always a safe choice.
How did you find your accommodation?
The university had a dormitory and they placed me there.
What are the accommodation prices like? What are prices like for other things in general?
About 300 zlots. I stayed in two different dormitories, one bigger but more far from the city center, and the other, smaller but in the city center, Jowita, that was just great!
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I didn't attended any course at the university, just learned some basic survival polish, it is by far the hardest obstacle.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Poznan from your city?
By plane of course, the best, I think, is to go from lisbon to berlin, and then by train to Poznan, it's a 4 hour trip. Also you can find some cheap transfers from the airport to Poznan, for something like 30 euros.
You also can go from Porto to London, and then from London to Poznan.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Poznan?
Anywhere!
There is so much offer that the best is to go to all of then, and then decide.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Poznan?
In Stary Rynek, there are a lot of places to go and of different types.
There are places for all the pockets, the more economic, i think, is a small spaggeteria called Picolo and you can find it in many places in Poznan.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Park Cittadella, the city center, and the shopping Stary Browar, a shopping made in a old brewerie.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Poznan in the future?
Just go! You won't regret it.
