Fast trip to Coimbra
This trip was my very first in Portugal. I have been here since September, and this trip was the 15, I had just met three amazing Erasmus girls and decided to go.
How to go to Coimbra
We decided to take a train. Here in portugal you have the CP (Comboios de Portugal) company to book train tickets, you can also buy them the same day in the train station... But be carefull about the time, we almost lose the train!! As we were traveling from Tomar, we had four hours of train, and one stop in the station of "Lamarosa" to change the train.
Mooving in Coimbra.
We arrived soon in the morning and we decided to walk direcly to the centre to have breakfast in a cozy cafe and taste one of the many pastrys they have.
After that we decided to go and see the oldest university of Portugal and almost one of the oldest in the whole world! The University of Coimbra, you could go and visit the library and also the tower, we couldn't do that, but we enjoyed the square and the great views.
We also went to see the nice Cathedral of Coimbra, the "Old" one, because there are two. It's ubicated in a litle square, just to found it going trough those streets is worth it. The Cathedral is surrounded of a couple of cafes and also ceramic shops and souvenirs (in one of those I spend more of half an hour looking all the beautifull tiles!).
I have tell you that to go there you have to go trough nice streets... Well, the truth is that you have to go up, a lot, and that day was really hot, so I didn't have a great time walking up there... But it is true that those streets are really nice and full of pretty houses, tiles and also street art. That is one of the things I really loved of Coimbra, you found art wherever you look!
Our trip was really short, so we only could see few things, like the main street, the cathedral, the great brige with the city views and of course enjoy the day walking arround. The best of this city is that, if you don't have much time like us, you can manage to enjoy it a lot, you just have to walk because everything is really close.
One thing important when you travel to discover... is not forget that when you get lost is when you can find the best treasures!
I hope you can go and enjoy this nice city, my friends and I did!
