Experience in Porto, Portugal by Raquel
What is it like to live in Porto? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
For sure! Porto is a really friendly and lovely city with a lot of history. Even though is the second biggest city in Portugal, it is not that large, so you can have a good quality of life! You can walk almost everywhere in the city center or take a bus or subway to a more distant area. Moreover, the academic environment is in-cre-di-ble! You will definitely feel at home!
What is the student lifestyle like in Porto?
Incredible! You will definitely love it! People are really really friendly so you will feel like at home. The city is not that big, so even taking public transport, you will be able to have a pretty good quality of life, everything is nearby. And for sure you won't miss partying!
How much does it cost to live in Porto?
It's a pretty cheap city to live in! Room rent in the city center is around 200 to 250 euros. You can even find it cheaper, or more expensive according to what you are looking for! The further from the city center the cheaper the accommodation!
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Porto? Is there any advice you can give?
I don't think so! You can look for it on internet on websites like Idealista, Casas, Sapo..., but if you can't find anything ask to your university or to the students association from your university, I'm sure they'll know something or helping you through it!
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is delicious, like all the food in the country! But you'll definitely have to try "Francesinha" in a traditional restaurant and mainly in Porto! Try Santiago restaurant, Capa Negra...
Is it good to eat out in Porto? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
You can find a lot of awesome places to eat in Porto, you can try a new one every week! I love Frida restaurant, a mexican one.
Is the nightlife good in Porto? Where is good to go?
Yes, of course! You have to go to Piolho and Galerias de Paris. It's a disco and a lot of people like Plano B (in Galerias de Paris), still, I recommend Kasa.
What advice would you give future students heading to Porto?
Enjoy it to the fullest, you are in the right city to do so!
