Experience in Porto, Portugal by Nuno
What is it like to live in Porto? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Porto it a medieval city, there's the cathedral, some interesting palaces, a lot of statues, and others historic monuments.
The people here are amazing! If you are in the street and you need some information everybody will try to help you :)
I like this city because you have a lot of to see and you can go to all places on foot.. it´s fantastic!
What is the student lifestyle like in Porto?
Every week we have students' night. During that night you can find all the students at the bars.
If you are a student in Porto you can get some discounts for metro and bus tickets as well as in some shops. But you need to have your student card with you.
How much does it cost to live in Porto?
When you compare Porto with Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, this city is amazing. For a coffee you will pay about €0. 70 and you can have lunch for €7, there are special menus with a drink and a coffee included!
For metro and bus tickets you will pay between €1. 50 and €2, but if you travel a lot you can get a tourist ticket valid for 24h which costs €6.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Porto? Is there any advice you can give?
It depends on the type of accommodation that you are looking for. If you are interested in an apartment, it is difficult to find a flat below €400 per month. If you are looking for a room to live in you can find some between €150 and €250 per month with bills included.
The best way to search is to find it on Facebook, but you shouldn't mention your budget, just to avoid being asked to pay more than the rent actually was.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Well, as far as food is concerned Porto it a paradise!
If you come here you need try the "francesinha". You can find this dish in almost every restaurant.
If you like seafood, you can find some very good restaurants in Matosinhos (it is another city 10km from Porto).
