What is it like to live in Porto? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Porto is such an amazing city to live in. Everyone is really friendly, generous, easy-going and welcoming. There's always something different to do and places to go. The city is vibrant and colourful.

What is the student lifestyle like in Porto?

Porto has a lot of traditions regarding students - it's called "praxe". The purpose is to bring students together by solidarity, partnership, respect and friendship. Even though Erasmus' students don't always join praxe, the other students will always welcome them the best way they can, inviting them to parties, study groups, tours around the city, etc.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Porto? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not difficult to find accommodation, Porto is a well known city. Search the internet for apartments/rooms to rent, you can find some cheap ones if you really look for it.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is really nice. One of Porto specialities is "francesinha" which is like a special hot sandwich with a variety of meats, sausage, cheese and a delicious spicy sauce made with beer on top.

What places would you recommend visiting in Porto?

  • The Ribeira Quay
  • Foz do Douro (beaches area)
  • Rua Miguel Bombarda (for a taste of contemporary art and design)
  • Porto Wine lodges in Gaia
  • The Church of Saint Francisco
  • D. Luis bridge

Is the nightlife good in Porto? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is amazing, there's a lot of clubs and bars you can go to and most of them have live music everyday.

What advice would you give future students heading to Porto?

Enjoy while you're there, you will definitely miss it. And don't worry to much about not adapting to the city, people will help you.
