What is it like to live in Porto? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Porto is a cultural and picturesque city along with it's numerous universities. There is so much diversity and history that one can get by without speaking Portuguese since many people speak English. It is one of the most affordable places to live in Europe.

What is the student lifestyle like in Porto?

The people of Porto are very friendly and the lifestyle is very relaxed.

How much does it cost to live in Porto?

The cost of living is very reasonable, one can get by without spending an outrageous amount of money.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Porto? Is there any advice you can give?

This is one of the most challenging situations upon arriving in Porto, even more difficult coming from another country. One needs to devote time to research the best location suitable for commuting to your destination.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is amazing, if you enjoy "Mediterranean cuisine". One can find pretty much anything from sushi to traditional dishes such as Francesinha or the famous Bacalhau (cod fish). As you will notice, there are 1001 different ways of making "Bacalhau".

What places would you recommend visiting in Porto?

There is something for everyone here in Porto, it depends on your interests and hobbies. Centro Portuguese de Fotografia is well worth visiting if you enjoy photography. Museu Fundacao de Serralves for art along with its beautiful garden. Palacio da Bolsa (stock exchange building) for its moorish style halls and architecture, ect.

Is it good to eat out in Porto? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are many reasonable places to eat for the most finicky taste buds. One can find traditional dishes or places to have pizza (Mr. Pizza), hamburgers, or "Steak & Shake", the latest restaurant to open in Porto.

Is the nightlife good in Porto? Where is good to go?

There are numerous nightclubs to choose from, such as Plano B or the RendezVous located on Rua de Cundido dos Reis where most of the cubs are located in Porto. Bar 77 which is a favorite among students since one can purchase a beer for one euro.

What advice would you give future students heading to Porto?

I would suggest joining a community depending on your hobbies which can be done once you arrive at the university or researching online.
