Experience in Poitiers, France by Caroline
What is it like to live in Poitiers? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It is a small city, really nice for me but probably too peaceful for many of you.
What is the student lifestyle like in Poitiers?
the campus is really good, it is huge and there are lots of green areas, it feels good studying there. La Maison des Etudiants is organizing several interesting events and if you like sports you should ask information to the SUAPS, they are offering plenty of cheap weekly activities
How much does it cost to live in Poitiers?
I would say approx. 300 euros for accommodation (minimum: 230 euros in Cite Universitaire for a very small room).
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Poitiers? Is there any advice you can give?
Have a look on the website Le bon coin, there are plenty of interesting offers (you deal directly with the owner so no extra cost). Just be careful, if there is no phone number, it might be a scam: always visit before any kind of commitment.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
You definitely have to taste the Broye du Poitou. Even the Tourteau fromage (it looks as if it were burnt, but it is not).
What places would you recommend visiting in Poitiers?
le lac de Saint-Cyr (25 mn drive)
all the medieval city center
Is it good to eat out in Poitiers? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Is the nightlife good in Poitiers? Where is good to go?
From what I saw, there are not many people in the street at night... still, you can go to the disco La Goule or the bar Connemara for a karaoke.
What advice would you give future students heading to Poitiers?
For dancers: Festival A corps in March/April every year (see SUAPS contemporary workshops).
