Erasmus Experience in Parma, Italy by Penina
Why did you choose to go to Parma, Italy?
Because it is a beautiful city full of traditions and cultures. Being one who come from the country which we embrace our cultures and traditions i always like to learn about other people's culture and become more knowledgeable.
I also like the musical history in this city because am a musician so i wanted to learn and know more of Parma's musical traditions and instruments
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
For me the scholarship is for six months but there are other students who have for more than six month which is from 8 months to a year.I can not say the exact amount but it is more than enough to afford expenses while having fun.
What is the student lifestyle like in Parma?
Its enjoyable and interesting in general due to some series of events organised by ESN parma and our own personal time planned events.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Parma to other students?
Yes definitely it would be my pleasure.
What is the food like?
Mh though am African and to tell the truth our African food is always the best but The food here is also not bad especially the pizza its interesting.And the pastas which involves all kinds of breads, sweet cakes and the normal pastas there is also prosciutto which is the traditional cured meat of parma.
To finish up the meal you will have a fine taste of wine.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Parma?
Yes i must say i had some help to find a place to live but if i didn't have someone it could have been a challenge but not so bad.
How much does it cost to live in Parma?
Mh it depends oh what kind of life style so i cannot say much here but i cook at home sometimes, so i notice if you cook its a bit less expensive. And in the general cost of living is moderate as things like food and other materials are not that expensive.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Its not easy for english speaking people but at the same time not difficult to learn. Yes there are language classes which am also currently attending at the university.But i must say its a very interesting and beautiful language to learn.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Parma from your city?
Mostly its trains but it depends on seasons some times buses and plains becomes cheaper if its not holidays or festivals.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Parma?
Hahaha.There is a club called Dadaumpa where students would go most of times for club goers but for non club goers at night you can visit the town center and hangout with friends, There is a city's museum where the outside part is particularly beautiful at night, The roman bridge and alot of other great night places
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Parma?
Mh its hard as there are alot of restraunts but most of them are good.And provide the most extraordinary food.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The museum pillota, the town center, the Catholic churches, the roman bridge, the town musical theatre, the chitadera(the park),The wineries and so on.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Parma in the future?
Mh if they are coming in the winter time they should bring enough coats as its gets very cold and in the summer time very light clothes as it also gets very hot.And finally they should make the most of it and enjoy to the fullest while studying life is short not to live it wholly. Welcome to Parma a capital of Culture 2020.
