My Erasmus Experience in Palma de Mallorca
Why did you choose to go to Palma de Mallorca, Spain?
To study tourism.
How long is the scholarship? How about costs?
Majorca is an expensive destination and you should budget around 1000GBP including meals but excluding transport for a three week stay.
How is student life in Palma de Mallorca?
You can join the integration week organised by the Erasmus programme where other people on Erasmus get together and do different activites getting to know each other. This is a good way to learn about the destination and make new friends.
Student life is laid back (apart from the actual studying) and very good fun. There's a great vibe and both local and foreign students are very friendly and outgoing.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Palma de Mallorca to other students?
Without a doubt!
What is the food like?
Food is cheap and plentiful. Tapas are delicious and best shared. Go out with local students to discover the best bars, etc.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes because I was already studying Spanish at home. Be careful not to sign up to classes in Catalan though as the language is totally different.
What cultural sites would you recommend?
The whole city of Palma is beautiful. The cathedral is magnificent. The old town itself is pretty unbeatable though and it's free!
