Experience in Palma de Mallorca, Spain by Andres
What is it like to live in Palma de Mallorca? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I have always lived in Palma and I think that it is a wonderful place to live. Its size is large enough to have every facility (cinemas, clubs, entertainment,...) and small enough not to have the inconveniences of those huge megacities (pollution, car jams,...).
What is the student lifestyle like in Palma de Mallorca?
Very easy, the weather is mild, distances are not that far, most of the people understand english and will try to help you,...
How much does it cost to live in Palma de Mallorca?
Spain is not an expensive country but Palma could be one of its more expensive cities. Anyway, you get what you pay for (I mean if you pay premium you get premium).
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Palma de Mallorca? Is there any advice you can give?
My best advice would be to look for a place close to Plaza de España, the core of transports in Palma. From there you can go anywhere easier that from any other place in the city. However, the further from Plaza de España you find, the cheaper place you get.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
In Palma, as a touristic city, you can get any kind of international food, from kebab to pizza or any food franchise.
What places would you recommend visiting in Palma de Mallorca?
The Bellver Castle or Na Burguesa (best city views), The Cathedral and Almudaina (historic places), Parc de la Mar and Murada (walking), Jaime III or Avingudes streets (shopping)...
Is it good to eat out in Palma de Mallorca? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
My cheap favourite places, all of them close to Plaza de España, are:
Pizza: Pasta & Fantasia
Japanese: Sushi nº1
Kebab: Ararat
Expensive special event: Casa Maruka
Is the nightlife good in Palma de Mallorca? Where is good to go?
I haven't gone out since the eighties... but the Paseo Marítimo is still the best place to go out.
What advice would you give future students heading to Palma de Mallorca?
Try not to live in a bubble so try to meet local people and follow local life and traditions.
