Palermo Cathedral

One of the most surprising views in the streets of Palermo were the many palm trees along the way. You can even eat the fruits when they are brown!

The Arab-Norman cathedral has foundations from the 6th century and has been a mosque and a library before, but the main building was constructed in 1184/5.

The outer facade mixes Gothic, Arabesque and Baroque elements, such as the pointed arches, flowery elements and the small cupolas on the side.

The interior has been renovated in the 18th century and houses a sun dial and the graves of Henry VI, Frederic II and Constance of Sicily.
