Vegan Campout 2019 in Nottingham

Vegan Campout 2019 in Nottingham

At the last day of August, when the summer was not burning the skin but led the mood burst in dopamine, we were getting ready for the biggest vegan camp out in the UK. If you asked me 3 years ago, who is vegan, I would definitely tell you - ‘’a person who wants to survive eating grass’’. Before coming to the UK, I had no idea what this word '’veganism’’ mean. Is it a diet?  A way to become a  mindful eater?  Or is a lifestyle? Soon, I found myself 100% plant-based enjoying mixture of more than 5 fruits and vegetables on my plate and being more energised, sharing vegan lifestyle, nutritional recipes and mindset of a healthy soul. With all my respect to myself from the past, my education level in this field was very limited due to narrow-mind and lack of knowledge. However, after becoming a student at a British university, I found out more about wellbeing, diet and healthy lifestyle. Thus, when my friend said he got tickets for the Vegan Camp Out in Nottingham, I was so excited! This opportunity can’t be left without action.

On Friday 30 August we took a train from Worcester to Nottingham, however, if I had to travel again, I would choose another route – why not to check National Express bus tickets from London?

Earthling Ed, Akala, James Aspey, Erin Janus, Dr Michael Klaper - right in front of us!

Vegans and also non-vegans gathered together at the Newark Showground to celebrate life, enjoy most delicious vegan food, dance and share inspiring stories. This year vegan camp lasted 3 days and brought 7 500 people from 40 countries. Sounds amazing, right? It was even more impressive when I saw those inspiring people I follow on Instagram. Today, just at this moment, they are in from of me, sharing their stories of transformation, rebellion and success. Famous Influencers, bright doctors, creative DJ and extraordinary chefs, such as Earthling Ed, Akala, James Aspey, Erin Janus, Dr Michael Klaperadopted vegan lifestyle to their life and today are chatting with us, joking about their previous lifestyle, habits and attitude. I was surprised, that these perfect people, who seem to be real celebrities, are actually much more ordinary, simple and real than I thought before. People like us – non-vegans, who transformed their lives 180 degrees after one decision. One step.

Inspiring stories about the vegan lifestyle, success and a choice

After the first talk, 7 500 people became one family, a magical energy bulb, that inspire each other and spread light to the dark side. During our first day we had a chance to learn more about vegan diet, tips on how to eat to lose weight (if you want to lose weight, don’t mix carbohydrates with the fats, as Dr Klaper said, explaining biochemical pathways) and how to stay persistent, loyal and encouraged to fulfil your dream. Story of Gaz Oakley, more famous of the name Vegan Avantgarde, made me cry, laugh and 10 times more motivated to believe in my dreams. Gaz found his passion for cooking at an early age, while at the age of 15 he became the youngest chef in the country with a Michelin star. Today, this 26-year-old guy with a charismatic, creative and warm soul was standing in front of 7 500 people sharing his journey to the vegan lifestyle. Is veganism a diet? Is it just a green food? Check Vegan Avantgarde and you will fall in love with vegan food. Maybe it’s time for a creative challenge? After I came back home, I knew I want to try these recipes and treat my non-vegan friends, who would never think that vegan food can taste so good.

Meditation and yoga at 5 am

During all days and nights, we had a chance to explore vegan stalls, try organic vegan food, participate in activities such as meditation, yoga, quizzes and competitions. At this camp,, every person, both adult and child, could find something they enjoy. Furthermore, camping outside and meeting new friends from all over the world is one of those experience, that remind you of limitless possibilities, diversity and your own choices you often make unconsciously.

On the next day, we woke up at 5 am to start our day with meditation organised by professional instructors. I couldn’t believe, that so many people made their way and woke up at such an early time! Sunny morning elevated our mood and created this positive vibe. Next, we had a competition with a fitness instructor, active games, workshops and a party in the evening with the DJ Akala. Every minute at this camp brought a new idea and let to build the strong will to implement vegan lifestyle to every choice, is it in the food supermarket while buying food, shopping – choosing a dress, or buying cosmetics not tested on animals. With such diverse knowledge I got from different people I came home as a new person, inspired to try new vegan recipes, read about vegan diet benefits and raise awareness of others
