Unforgettable Notts!
Why did you choose to go to Nottingham, United Kingdom?
The truth is that it seemed very attractive to me as a place, since I knew that the Nottingham campus was one of the best and most beautiful campuses in the UK.
How long was the scholarship? How much money did you receive?
The scholarship lasted one academic year, from September to June. In terms of money, we received payments from the 'Universidad de Extremadura' (University of Extremadura), from the grant of MEC (if you have a scholarship) and the grant from the 'Junta de Extremadura' for Erasmus (done through selection). I was lucky enough to be able to get all three so I didn't have any money troubles.
What is student life like in Nottingham?
In one word: cool! You will rub shoulders with people of all nationalities so it is a fantastic opportunity to get to know other cultures and languages.
Would you recommend the city and the university to other students?
Of course, like I have said it is an enormous campus and the teachers are very good. The city is quite beautiful and it has everything you could need, it is one of the biggest cities in the UK.
What is the food like?
To tell the truth, there is everything that you could want there, it did not disappoint me, but it depends on the person of course.
How did you find your accommodation?
Via the internet, my flatmate and I found a house. But there are a mountain of halls of residencies that the university offers to students.
How much does accommodation cost? And what are the prices in general like in Nottingham?
I think that they are expensive, compared to Spain anyway. But you have to remember that the standard of living there is higher than in Spain.
How was the language? Did you enrol in a language course at the university?
To begin with it was difficult to understand the others and I am student of English philology, but you get used to it. I didn't go to a course, but there were a lot of them to help Erasmus students with the language.
What is the cheapest way to get to Nottingham from your city?
I always flew from Madrid to London and then got a bus to Nottingham. If you are lucky you can find flights for less then 100 euros.
Which places would you recommend for partying in Nottingham?
The student nights (I can't remember the names of the clubs), you can buy the tickets on campus. They are cool, very big and it does not smell of smoke! (which is better! )
What about eating in Nottingham? Can you list your favourite places?
My favourite place was Subway, where you can buy sandwiches where you choose the fillings, which are all fresh and it is all for a good price.
What about cultural visits?
That is also very good. As you know Nottingham is the home of Robin Hood, therefore, there are lots of places dedicated to him: the castle, Sherwood forest. Also, there are a lot of museums, shops and a mountain of fairs.
Do you have any advice you would like to offer to future students on Nottingham?
You should not hesitate visiting this city, you are going to love it!
