Erasmus experience in Nottingham, United Kingdom by Violeta
Why did you decide to go to Nottingham, United Kingdom?
Because I read online that it was not a very big city but it had lots of things to do and it had a good student life.
How long was your scholarship? How much money did you receive as support?
In my case it was a duration of 9 months of Erasmus and I received 300 euros a month.
What is the student life like in Nottingham?
Very good. There are two universities so there are a lot of students. Also, there are companies like City Life that organise events and trips for international students.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Nottingham to other students?
Yes.
What is the food like in England?
Well it's England, so you can already imagine... they don't have much of their own food because the English don't like to cook much, but in the supermarkets you can manage to find tasty food similar to Spanish food. Also, one good thing that they have in England is all the restaurants have a vegetarian option, something very difficult to find in Spain! One of the few things about the food that I will miss hahaha.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Nottingham?
Yes. I went to Nottingham without anything and it was a nightmare. In September everything left was disgusting. So do not do that! You should go before to search for a flat or some form of housing.
How much does it cost to live in Nottingham?
I paid 400 pounds a month to rent. Then there are other things that add up like food, going out, etc.
How did you find the language? Did you do some sort of language course at the university?
It was easy to understand. At the start the accent can be quite difficult but not as bad as if you were to go to Scotland.
What is the cheapest way for you to travel to Nottingham from your city?
From Abril to November there is a plane from Valencia to Nottingham and it is usually quite cheap.
Which places would you recommend to go to to party in Nottingham?
Pom Pom, Ink, pubs...
What about eating in Nottingham? Can you list your favourite places?
The World Buffet is quite good.
What about cultural visits?
Wollaton Park is very close and very beautiful. Also, I loved Newstead Abbey, that is a little far but worth your while. It was the house of Lord Byron and they let you see almost all of it.
