Why did you choose to go to Nottingham, United Kingdom?

Because Nottingham has:

  • Two of the best universities in the UK The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University,
  • Many language schools,
  • It is a safe city,
  • It offers excellent transport connections between north and south of the UK,
  • Nottingham is next to the East Midlands Airport,
  • It has a huge range of good and cheap restaurants,
  • The nightlife is excellent and it is safe,
  • The transport system is excellent.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

As an EU student, I received grants from the UK government.

What is the student lifestyle like in Nottingham?

There are many bars, cheap and good restaurants, lots of safe buses after midnight.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Nottingham to other students?

Yes because The University of Nottingham is known as one of the best universities in the UK amongst the employers. It will look good on your CV.

What is the food like?

There is a variety of restaurants. From Italian and Spanish to Asian and Egyptian.

There are many international supermarkets where international students can buy their own food. For example Polish, Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, etc.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Nottingham?

No. I stayed at Victoria Hall in Nottingham because it is cheap and the rooms are excellent. The price includes fast internet and 24-hour security. It is in the city centre.

How much does it cost to live in Nottingham?

If you cook and live at Victoria Hall, my weekly budget was:

  • £98 for the accommodation
  • £20 for food
  • £50 for other expenses

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes. Every university offers language support, language courses and the staff are prepared to help non-UK students.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Nottingham from your city?

The cheapest way is to fly to London then to take a bus from a company called National Express.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Nottingham?

There is a huge bar/restaurant in the city centre called Pitcher & Piano. The building is actually a huge cathedral and once you are there you will be impressed!

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Nottingham?

In the city centre, there are many types of restaurants but I recommend buffets. Eat as much as you like for a fixed price! There is a huge place in the city centre which has many restaurants called The Cornerhouse.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Nottingham is well known for Robin Hood and its medieval history. I recommend visiting Nottingham Castle and Wollaton Hall. Also, check out the Nottingham Information Centre website.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Nottingham in the future?

There are two major bus company in Nottingham: Nottingham City Transport and Trent Barton. Always buy a season ticket. It´s cheaper.
