Erasmus Experience in Nottingham, United Kingdom by Marina

Why did you choose to go to Nottingham, United Kingdom?

I wanted to come to the UK and since I'm used to living in a city I wanted to experience the campus lifestyle.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship is 3 months long and I've received 800€ from my local government and 1600€ from the European Union.

What is the student lifestyle like in Nottingham?

My experience living in halls has showed me that Nottingham is a student city. The clubs itself aren't that amazing, but it's just the fact that everywhere you go you'll find someone you know (from halls, course).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Nottingham to other students?

Totally.

What is the food like?

I've been living in halls so the food has been horrible. I haven't been to many places in town because I wanted to save money, but I'm sure the'll be nice places. To be honest I'm not a fan of British cuisine.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Nottingham?

No.

How much does it cost to live in Nottingham?

I'd say you need 1000 pounds a month including accommodation, food, going out, transport, drinks... everything.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes, and there are also courses available in the University but I haven't received them.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Nottingham from your city?

From Barcelona you can fly to East Midlands Airport (depending on the season). For example, I've had to fly from London in the Christmas break because there were no flights available from EMA to Barcelona in December.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Nottingham?

Crisis (at Rock City) is my favourite place. Other student clubs are Ocean, Forum, Oceana and Stealth.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The Castle and the Old Trip to Jerusalem, the oldest pub in England.
