Nottingham has several neighbourhoods. As a student, the most important ones are the city centre, Hockley, the Lace Market, Clifton, Lenton and West Bridgford. There are other areas which students often decide to live in. It depends on which campus and university they are studying at.

Nottingham City Centre

With a castle and both the oldest and second oldest pubs in Britain, you can’t deny that Nottingham has a charm about it. The enormous amount of independent businesses only add to this. However don’t think this means you won’t find all of your highstreet favourites. Nottingham provides for everyone.

There are plenty of accommodation offers in the city centre too, so if you decide this is where you would like to live, it is entirely a possibility.

With life bursting out the seams, Nottingham has everything. It doesn’t matter if you’re a history buff, a bit more chilled out or a full on party animal, you are sure to be entertained. Everywhere you go, you will find live music and the ice rink brings in people from many other cities.

Hockley

Having been described as the ‘Soho’ of Nottingham, a walk through Hockley’s quirky streets will leave you nothing short of inspired. Nottingham’s cultural quarter: here you can find quirky independent businesses, cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs, vintage shops and even a creative arts cinema, showing films in their original languages.

Hockley comes to life at night. No matter what day of the week, there is a hustle and a bustle in the streets and you have your choice of places to go, making it a popular destination amongst students; And if you enjoy poetry or live music, there are no shortage of poetry nights and live music events. The Hockley Hustle is a music festival that promotes the local bands in the area. It is centrally located.

The Lace Market

Strolling through the historic streets of the Lace Market could never leave you bored. During the British empire, Nottingham was a world leader in lace making and the lace market was the heart of this trade. The great Victorian buildings can still be seen today. The Lace Market also houses the galleries of justice, as well as one of the United Kingdom’s largest art centers - The Nottingham Contemporary.

The Motorpoint Arena is also situated in the Lace Market. This entertainment venue hosts the biggest and most famous artists, comedians and shows. It is located in theNational Ice Centrewhich sprouted the Winter Olympic Ice Dancing champions, Torvill and Dean. It is located right next to Hockley.

Clifton

Nottingham Trent’s Clifton Campus is almost a city in itself. You have everything you need right there at your fingertips. The Student Union buildings provide everything you could possibly want; with a small grocery shop, the Pavilion building offering various dining options andthe Pointstudent bar, which transforms into a club on Friday nights and is legendary amongst students. There is even a gym.

Greenery is more prevalent than you would expect and the library has recently undergone a £5million refurbishment making Clifton the ideal place to study.

Nottingham’s tramline has now extended to Clifton although it is served well by bus. The unibus runs fairly often so it isn’t hard to travel to the City centre.

Lenton

Ideally situated between the city centre and the main campus of the University of Nottingham, Lenton is a popular choice for students of the University of Nottingham. Its location makes it the ideal place to live and almost everyone you see is a student. There is a more peaceful atmosphere in the streets although with the city centre a short bus journey or walk away, you are never too far away from the party.

The amenities in proximity more than suffice to facilitate your stay. Within the Castle Marina retail park, you have an enormous Sainsbury's, a pub and several restaurants at your disposal; and the ever popular Savoy cinema offers dirt cheap student rates, making it a hotspot for students.

West Bridgeford

With its vast array of restaurants and bars in Nottingham, West Bridgeford has a life of its own; but don’t think it’s chaotic. A stroll through the picturesque streets of West Bridgeford could only be described as peaceful; the ideal place to unwind after a hard day at uni. There is a park, gyms, places of amusement… even a cricket ground. What more could you possibly want?

It is ideally situated between Nottingham Trent’s Clifton Campus and the City Centre which makes it a popular choice amongst Trent students. Of course, there are also several supermarkets. You have everything you need.

As there are two Universities; each one with multiple campuses, students tend to live in many different areas of Nottingham. Which one depends on where you are studying.
