Experience in Nijmegen, Netherlands, by Vladislavs

What is it like to live in Nijmegen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Very student-like city, there are two big Universities in the middle of the city and city life is quite lively. Also, there are a lot of festivals and things to do.

What is the student lifestyle like in Nijmegen?

Is very culturally diverse and everyone is quite friendly, you meet people from all over the world and there is always stuff to do within the city. Universities constantly organize different events and help out students as much as possible (find housing, jobs and help with establishing within the city). Everything a student can ask for, is within the city.

How much does it cost to live in Nijmegen?

Between 500-600 euros including rent and food.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Nijmegen? Is there any advice you can give?

Not that difficult, usually students get top priority when it comes to living and there are a number of different Student Homes. In most cases, universities help in organizing a place to live for 1st years students in dorms and such, but after 1 year you have a choice of either living in the same place or moving out to somewhere nicer.

Best advice is to make good friends and eventually rent out a house together.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Dutch food is quite basic and not that tasteful. But there are a lot of different restaurants and places to go to, which are relatively cheap. Best dish i had was a kapsalon doner.

What places would you recommend visiting in Nijmegen?

City center, everything is there.

Is it good to eat out in Nijmegen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is very lovely, but not too often, otherwise it will become too unhealthy. My favorite spots would be the Doner Company next to the Central Station (they have the best durum in the city) or Dominos Pizza.

Is the nightlife good in Nijmegen? Where is good to go?

It is excellent, the entire city is filled with clubs and different bars.

What advice would you give future students heading to Nijmegen?

Explore, experience and enjoy your stay in Nijmegen. It is an awesome place once you get used to it (in my experience it took a full year to feel comfortable).
