Is it difficult to find accommodation in Nijmegen? Is there any advice you can give?

It could be difficult, but the SSHN is a corporation which is very willing to help foreign students.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are more than enough different places to go out and have dinner, but you also can go to a supermarket and make a dish yourself.

What places would you recommend visiting in Nijmegen?

For performances: Doornroosje, this is a place where you can have a great party but also nice for performances.

For sightseeing, do the Mariken of Nimwegen trip. You get a guided tour around the city with the story about a girl called Mariken.

To have a nice walk/skating, go to the Goffert, it's a big park in Nijmegen. But also the Kronenburgerpark is nice.

For walking in the forest you can go to the Duivelsberg (the devils mountain) you can have a great view from there.

Oortjeshekken is a place to have lunch in the Ooij. It's nice to go biking over there and enjoy the view (which is flat... very flat).

If you're into art movies you should go to LUX, they have a lot of that genre.

Is it good to eat out in Nijmegen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

For lunch I can recommend: De blonde pater, Bairro Alto (really cool if it it's nice weather, cause then you get a picnic basket and blanket to go out and sit on the grass).

For lunch and for having a drink you can go to de Grote Markt (big market) it's in the old centre of Nijmegen.

For drinking special beers: De blauwe hand (the blue hand), Café Samson or Brink you have nice beer menus which you can take.

For a wine menu you can go to Pinot which is also on de Grote Markt.

Is the nightlife good in Nijmegen? Where is good to go?

Parties: If you're into techno you can easily go to Waalhalla but also Doornroosje. There is a main street where you can go to, called de Molenstraat (windmillstreet), there are quite some bars to go out there at night. Some other bars which are nice and around the corner are Fuik, Twee keer bellen, Billabong and bascafe.

What advice would you give future students heading to Nijmegen?

If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask a dutch student cause probably they will know what to do! Have a lot of fun and buy yourself a warm jacket.
