Erasmus Experience in Nice, France by John
Why did you choose to go to Nice, France?
I choose the South of France to get some sun in a beautiful place while learning french getting in experience in the field of study that I'm interested in. I was happy to go to Marseille, Nice, or Grenoble but Nice was the only option worked out.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
just 8 weeks. I received no money as my placement was organised solely by me. My university was only involved in giving me permission once I organised it with the hospital in Nice.
What is the student lifestyle like in Nice?
No comment. I haven't had much opportunity to interact with students except at placement where they have been preparing for exams since I arrived.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Nice to other students?
Yes for the city. I don't know anything about the University.
What is the food like?
Great.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Nice?
Still looking, I've been here two weeks and still haven't found a reasonable place so I'm still staying in hostels
How much does it cost to live in Nice?
Depends on what style of life you want. It can be quite cheap for food and drink if you do it right. Accomodation appears to be quite expensive but might be reasonable if you organise it in time.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I've found the language quite difficult to adapt to but the people at my placement have been very good about it and I'm hopefully improving by exposure and studying in my own time. I'm not getting any course while here. I looked up a few that seemed very expensive so I haven't been able to sign up for one.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Nice from your city?
by plane
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Nice?
the beach
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Nice?
Le Flore, Les amoureux
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Any town nearby. Wander around the old town. Visit the waterfal at the end of the promenade.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Nice in the future?
Plan accomodation well in advance
