Èze, a small 'medieval' village near to Nice

Èze is a small village, around a twenty minute bus journey away to the east of Nice. To go, you have to get the same bus which takes you to Monaco (the 100), and as it's in France, you can use your transport pass and the trip won't cost you anything. The trip to the village isn't bad. If you're lucky and can get a seat, then it's better.

Once you arrive, you must get off at a stop called 'Eze Gare' (or something like this) which is basically the train station. However, your trip does not end here. In order to get to the medieval part of the village so to speak, you have to get another bus (your pass is also valid on this one, ne vous inquiétez pas). I believe I remember it being the number 98, although when you arrive, you'll see a small map which indicates where you are, which bus you have to catch and when you have to get off.

Once you've start walking to the village, you'll realise why it's worth visiting. It has a large amount of shops and artisan stands from the area. Without a shadow of a doubt the one I liked the most was a small shop belonging to a man who sculpted forms into wood: fairies, elves and faces in a trunk... If I'm honest with you, it was a magical shop.

As you want through the village, take it's small, steep streets; climbing stairs that will probably bring you back to the same place you came from. You can see such charming buildings like this one, completely covered in ivy.

There is a small church. It's not incredibly pretty (in my opinion) but from where it's situated, there are good views of the city and the mountain (if you're lucky, you also get to see the sea).

For those who like photography, an advantage (in my opinion) is the cemeteries. They are open to the public, the tombs are rather peculiar and often interesting and they are always handy for a somewhat gloomy photography session.

This is your village if you want to peacefully see a village at your own rhythm and without a guide. You can get lost in the streets, go round in circles and never get bored. What's more, you will probably find a perfect corner that you won't want to leave.

This village has a viewpoint at the top; from which the sea can be seen in all it's glory. If you come to the French Riviera, be sure to visit this place. You will not regret it. :)
