Italians usually drink wine by small portions and choose it not only according taste preferences, but also depending on seasons: red wine on winter season because it warms and heats the blood, and white wine during summertime which is the best choice in sultry weather.

Campania’s ground is one of the most fertile territories in planet. Since ancient times the grape is grown there, that’s why you can find unique collection of wines here! From winding hills of Benevento and Avellino provinces to huge vineyards in Amalfi cost and Ischia and Capri islands, and even on the slope of Vesuvius – grape is everywhere!

Best wines of Campania region

Here is a top-5 of best classic grape varieties in picturesque Campania:

  • Aglianico – black grape type, which gets great condition while being grown there. Such famous wines as Taurasi DOCG (Avellino province) and Aglianico del Taburno (Benevento Province) are made on base of Aglianico.
  • Falanghina – two types of grape are grown in Campania, both to make high-quality white sparkle wine with sweetish fruit taste. It tastes ideally with fish dishes or pasta, goes well as happy-hour drink (aperitivo).
  • Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio (The tears of Christ) – has bible sources. This grape is presented by vineyard, which is everywhere on slopes of Vesuvius. It’s suitable to make red, white and rose wine.
  • Piedoso – from Neapolitan that means “Per’e’ palummo”, which literally means “Red leg”. It’s said that it has such name because of similarity of grape’s red skin with pigeon’s paw color.
  • Greco di Tufo – southern topchoice of white grape! Used to prepare valuable white wine, which fits well as refreshing aperitivo somewhere on Amalfi coast.
