Erasmus Experience in Nantes, France by Sonali
Why did you choose to go to Nantes, France?
I did not want to study in a big city since I've lived in big cities all my life (I'm from Mumbai,India) so I chose the university accordingly to be able to experience life in a smaller city.
What is the student lifestyle like in Nantes?
It depends on where you live in Nantes. The Ile de Nantes area has most of the clubs and the pubs. I live in the student area close to my university and it's usually very quiet after 7:45pm since it's a residential area.
On Sundays, almost everything is closed so there's not much to do other than visit museums or the chateau.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Nantes to other students?
I study at Audencia, so I'm not sure if I could recommend the University, however, if you're looking to experience a smaller city, then Nantes could be a nice place for you. The people are really nice and helpful, there's a wide variety of cuisines you can try and it's a small, cozy city.
What is the food like?
Nantes has representation of multiple cuisines from around the world. I've tried Vietnamese, Chinese,Lebanese and French cuisines while I'm here.
The food is not spicy at all, but it is wholesome.
How much does it cost to live in Nantes?
Depending on rent, your cost may vary. But it's generally around 600€/month including rent.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, however, I already spoke French before I came to Nantes.
There are language courses available at my university at specific times.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Nantes?
Ile de Nantes or Commerce
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Le Chateau du duc de Bretagne, Foch Cathedrale, les Machines
