What is it like to live in Nancy? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I have estuded in Nancy since 2013 and I really like it! Some people say the city is not beautiful but I personally like it (even if it's not one of the most beautiful city in France... ). I would recommend it!

Lively little town. Both sunny and rainy weather. Many events (Concerts, opera, Nancy Jazz Pulsation, Livre sur la place, Nocturnes étudiantes)

What is the student lifestyle like in Nancy?

Nancy was voted best student city in France by a magazine and I agree! Universities are pleasant and there are many things to do in the city (lots of restaurants, bars, shops). The city center is not far from Universities such as the Campus Lettres et Sciences Humaines and Faculté de droit... Many parties are organised (as the ''English Pub Night'' where you go to drink beers and speak English with people from everywhere).

Moreover with the SUAPS program, you can have access to many diverse sports just for 10€ the year (basket-ball, swimming pool... but also dance lessons! )

How much does it cost to live in Nancy?

I think it's not an expensive city compared to other countries such as England. I live in a student room (common bathrooms, toilets and kitchen) and my room costs 177€. Food and others things are not very expensive.

• Buses: 1 ticket (which lasts one hour) = 1, 30€ (but it's cheaper if you buy ten-trips tickets).
• One meal at the university restaurants: 3, 20€.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Nancy? Is there any advice you can give?

As a French student, it is easy to find accommodation, either flats or student rooms and I think it is also easy for Erasmus students (there are many Erasmus students in my university and my university residence).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

First : if you go in Nancy and more generally in France, you may go in bakeries and bought baguettes (= loaf of bread), which are delicious here, and pastries of course.

If I had to choose one restaurant, I would say "Le Bouche à Oreille". My favorite dishes are Raclette (French), Spaghetti and Lasagne (I know these are not French dishes.. ).

What places would you recommend visiting in Nancy?

My favorite place is the "Place Stanislas", it is really wonderful and clean (day and night). "La pépinière" also called "la pep" (a park next to the Place Stan) and "Le Musée des Beaux-Arts".

Is it good to eat out in Nancy? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Ops, I have already answered this question partly earlier.

• My favourite spots: "Le Bouche à Oreille", "The Kensington" (to drink coffee and eat muffins), but also "The Columbus".

• Other great spots but where I've unfortunately never been yet: "L'excelsior" (for classy breakfasts), "L'Angeluzzo", "Le Capri", "La Cerise sur le gateau".

But of course there are also McDonald's, KFC, Quick, Subway!

Is the nightlife good in Nancy? Where is good to go?

Yes, it is! There are several bars, my favourite is an Irish Pub : Mac Carthy (where we celebrated St Patrcik's Day this year). The 915 Kaffe is a great bar-club.

• Clubs: "L'envers", "Le Chat Noir".

What advice would you give future students heading to Nancy?

Each year groups are created on Facebook, join them (this is where we ask questions about our lessons, class.. ).
