Nancy is such a beautiful city. At the heart of it, right by the town centre is a square called Place Stanislas, which is justifiably considered the most beautiful royal square in Europe. Adjacent to it is the huge Parc de la Pépinière, which offers a lot of places to sit and enjoy sunny days, as well as several food stands, a flower garden and a mini-zoo where you can see monkeys, goats, donkeys etc.

The inhabitants of Nancy are super-friendly and everything is within walking distance. There is a regular bus and tram service. A one-hour pass costs 1. 30 euros and allows you to travel anywhere on public transport. The train station is right in the centre, easy to access and very convenient to go to other French cities, e. g. Metz, Paris, Lyon, etc.

The city is wonderfully clean and there is no rubbish to be seen. As for university residences, they are in an acceptable state of cleanliness and most of them are close to a campus. I chose the Residence Monbois since it the closest one to the Campus de Lettres et de Sciences Humaines (Languages & Social Sciences Campus). It is literally right up the road.

It takes only 20 minutes to walk into town and there you can find everything you need. There are two particular cinemas almost just across the road from each other. One of them shows French films and foreign language films dubbed into French and the other one shows films in French, foreign language films in the original language with French subtitles and independent films.

The bar that most Erasmus and foreign students go to when they are in Nancy is called The Love Boat Bar and is located in town. If you are a member of ESN (the Erasmus Student Network, whose membership card costs only 10 euros and that you can get at the Love Boat Bar on Tuesday nights or at the Erasmus office on the law campus); you enjoy cut-price drinks (although a change of policy now excludes cocktails, which are still at full price).

There are also a variety of nightclubs which offer themed nights and cater to different people (e. g. the L'Envers club likes to play rock'n'roll songs, songs from the 50s till the 80s, etc. ), as well as museums. At the Place Stanislas is the large Musée des Beaux-Arts, and an opera house, which you can get discounted tickets for if you are a student.

Like in most places in France you can enjoy various discounts on a lot of things in Nancy if you are a student or under 26 years old, e. g. on transport, in the cinema, museum, opera, places of interest, etc.

Nancy is such a lovely place and I am having a great time here, I really recommend it to everyone!
