What is it like to live in Nairobi? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Like every city, Nairobi has its own rhythm. I'm not sure whether I like Nairobi. It's a bit chaotic. But it is growing and it's a lovely place. It's worth visiting.

What is the student lifestyle like in Nairobi?

People attend classes. After that, you choose how you'll experience university life.

How much does it cost to live in Nairobi?

In comparison to Europe, it is cheap. With 600 euros, one can get a 2 bedroomed fully furnished apartment in one of upscale neighborhoods. The cost of living is, however, getting higher.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Nairobi? Is there any advice you can give?

Not really. Many apartments are coming up in different areas of the city. It is easier to get housing via an agent.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is good. Common Kenyan dishes are ugali, chapati and foods from the coastal region of Kenya such as biryani. There is variety. You can find popular foods from almost every part of the world. I don't have a favourite dish.

  • The national museum
  • Rock city in the outskirts of Nairobi
  • Aboretum
  • Maasai market (in the city centre)

Is it good to eat out in Nairobi? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes. I think the best places are the local restaurants. My favourite restaurants currently are Noma and Rayan's in the city centre. They offer a large serving of delicious food at an affordable price. I recommend that you try the local fast food for some 'kuku pono'.

Is the nightlife good in Nairobi? Where is good to go?

It's wild. I don't go out much. I think Kenyans drink a lot.

What advice would you give future students heading to Nairobi?

Come and discover for yourself. Do not be afraid to try things and immerse yourself in the Nairobi life.
