Experience in México, D.F., Mexico by Angelica

What is it like to live in México, D.F.? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a chaotic yet awesome city. You'll never get bored. Best art exhibitions, amazing museums and architecture. Interesting night life, full of restaurants/bars/cafes.

What is the student lifestyle like in México, D.F.?

If you're looking for quietness maybe it's not the place.

How much does it cost to live in México, D.F.?

It's the same as Lisbon, Portugal.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in México, D.F.? Is there any advice you can give?

Not difficult at all. There are several options, from airbnb to pensions to rooms to whole flats. My advice is to contact someone in the university and they can recommend something close by. As it is a huge city is convenient to look for something close.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Foreigners probably think we only eat tacos. We have a huge variety of dishes, and on a daily basis we eat international food. My favourite Mexican dishes are: 1. mole, 2. pozole, 3. chile en nogada (only served August-September).

What places would you recommend visiting in México, D.F.?

Museo de Antropología (first of it's kind world wide); Centro Histórico; Contemporary Museums: MUAC (Ciudad Universitaria), JUMEX (Polanco); Coyoacán; Condesa; Roma; the museum's zone in Chapultepec (Museo Tamayo, Museo Arte Moderno, the Castle); Teotihuacán Pyramids; Xochimilco.

Is it good to eat out in México, D.F.? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are thousands. Always changing. I would NOT recommend eating on the street (under those tends), it's not clean. Never eat salsas in a dubious place, sometimes they don't disinfect the herbs and that's where the bacterias are. It's safe to eat them in a restaurant. Drink only filtered or bottled water.

Is the nightlife good in México, D.F.? Where is good to go?

Sorry, I'm not the right person to recommend places to party :(

What advice would you give future students heading to México, D.F.?

Go. It's a totally different experience. Yes, it's crowded, but that's part of it's charm.
