Experience in México, D.F., Mexico by Ana Cris

What is it like to live in México, D.F.? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Sometimes is too crowded but it is a great place to meet new people, not only Mexican but from all around the world. The city is quite big, and it takes time to learn how to move around, I use the public transport, which is not the best you can find but it takes you where you need to go, and I haven't until now, had any bad experience.
I would recommend visiting since it has a lot to offer, many museums, a lot of entertainment and culture.

What is the student lifestyle like in México, D.F.?

I would recommend living close to where you are studying, because if you live far away you will spent most of your days in transportation.
There is plenty to do for students and there are organizations that help foreign students adapt by organizing activities such as parties and trips.

How much does it cost to live in México, D.F.?

It depends on which part you live in. Neighborhoods such as Roma, Condesa, Polanco are more expensive, but affordable for many that come from other countries.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in México, D.F.? Is there any advice you can give?

Is not very hard, there are always facebook pages or people you can talk to so the process is safer.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I love the food. There is plenty to choose from, I love chilaquiles, tacos and many other things. Sometimes people who are not used to picante or the ingredients used here, may not digest it very well but its just a matter of getting used to it.

What places would you recommend visiting in México, D.F.?

Centro Historico, Museo de Antropologia, Bike rides in Reforma on Sundays, a bunch of other museums. Night clubs, Teotihuacan, Xochimilco.

Is it good to eat out in México, D.F.? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I don't really have favorites, but I can tell you there are thousands of places you can go, from little stands on the streets to very fancy gourmet restaurants, with food from all around the world.

Is the nightlife good in México, D.F.? Where is good to go?

It's good, there is always something to do and if you get bored in one place you can just skip to the next.

What advice would you give future students heading to México, D.F.?

Prepare to meet people of all shapes and sizes and different mindsets. Be open to meet everyone. Public transport is not very dangerous, but don't get too comfortable, as any place in the world be careful.
Don't just stay in the city, travel around, there are hundreds of places you can go that are close to Mexico City, or not too close but they are really worth it. Mexico is a beautiful country
