Experience in Mexico City, Mexico by Samantha
What do you think about living in Mexico city? Do you recommend it? How is it?
Mexico City is a very large and highly populated city. The people are nice but in the city, they want speed. The prices are cheap in comparison to European cities and you can find all sorts of things. There are a wide variety of foods and objects. In the centre there are streets specialising in certain kinds of goods, such as beauty items, furniture, shoes, etc. However, you have to be vigilant because along with it come the dangers of being a big, big city.
How is student life in Mexico City?
It's really great. The universities and their campuses are integrated into the city so if you live near to school, you can find everything else in the same zone; and to get around, you just need to use the metro or any other form of transport.
How much does it cost to live in Mexico City?
It's less than a euro for a kilo of fruit or vegetables. In general, it is less than 50 cents depending on where you buy them. The food is cheap and natural. The metro costs 3 pesos per ticket, no matter the distance and the buses cost around 4 to 9 pesos, depending on the area.
The rent for a student room is from between 1, 000 to 3, 000 pesos, and the student cafeterias are cheap. La comida corrida (full menu) costs an average of 35 pesos and includes at least water, soup, rice and stew.
Was it hard to find accommodation in Mexico City? Can you give any advice?
It is easy to find around the universities or in them, you can find advertisements of people with a room to rent.
How is the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is very spicy and there are sauces made from different types of chillies. It is delicious. My favourite dish is the pozole and the chiles en nogada, alambre and mole. The street food is also delicious, but it has to be eaten in moderation because it is fried in order to be cooked faster.

What places would you recommend to visit in Mexico City?
'Teotihuacan', the 'Templo Mayor', 'Coyoacán', 'Bellas Artes', 'Zócalo', 'Xochimilco', 'Condesa'.
Teotihuacan
And to go out to eat in Mexico City? Can you cite your favourite places?
You can eat anywhere, depending on your tastes.
Which places do you recommend to go out and party in Mexico?
"Colonia Roma", "Condesa", "Polanco", "Zócalo".
Any advice that you want to give to future students in Mexico City?
My advise is to take extreme precaution at night, don't walk through streets without many people around and be vigilant when walking. Eating the 'comida corrida' is healthy and cheap.
Living in the capital is easy, but you also have to be careful; it being a large city.
