Hungover
I don´t know much about other cities, but battling with a hangover in Mexico is a big deal, almost a religious matter. I mean, I get it. Almost nobody likes waking up and having to deal with the cold-hot feeling that comes after a night out. Personally, I don´t mind. It´s a way of knowing that you were somewhere last night, somewhere good. That for a brief moment, this city didn´t have you by the throat, you didn´t have to fight against traffic, or against the feeling that everything and everyone has somewhere to be or something to do that is more important than anything else. Don´t get me wrong, I am not an alchoholic (eventhough that´s probably what most alcoholic people say), I just like to free some stress and escape from routine for a while.
Now, Partying in Mexico is probably a very particular thing, so I will talk about it in other post with more details. Right now, I want to focus on the morning after. Everyone has it´s own little ritual to deal with a hangover, but Mexico city offers many options to help you with this. The most popular recipie are chilaquiles. hard tortilla pieces covered in salsa (the more spicy, the more effective), sour cream, cheese and eggs. Almost every place that serves breakfast will offer chilaquiles. This will cure your hangonver, but it may not be eough by itself. So, we mexicans like to add a beautiful, cold Michelada to the mix. A michelada is beer mixed with different sauces (Maggi, Valentina, english sauce), lemon juice and salt. I know... If you are form one of those countries where beer is a cultural thing, you would think that we are raping beer. Yet, it´s so good.
So there, we mexicans cure hangovers by drinking some more and eating spicy food. The city is full of places to gather with your friends and deal with your demons from last night while you share your drunk sories (there are always drunk stories, and they are always th best).
