The wonderful city of Medellin

The beautiful city of Medellin, Colombia offers a variety of things. At a first glance, one can be quite sceptical of both Colombia as a country and the city of Medellin. Medellin has struggled with a bad reputation ever since Escobar ruled the town, but fear not: Medellin is the most amazing city on earth. Make sure to go beyond the turistic areas and try to live as a local. Websites can be found where people are opening up their homes and let you stay with them. That is how I found a friend for life and why I recommend every one I meet to visit Medellin: because of its inhabitants. The people of Medellin are like no other population, they are kind, generous and with a good sense of humour. I felt right at home.

• go up to the viewpoint, where you can see the entire city of Medellin from above and drink hot chocolate.
• Visit the parks and the botanical garden and listen to music.
• Eat loads of streetfood and arroz con leche.
• Buy cheap beer and enjoy life.

Transportation is good and cheap, the tram departs every minute and if you jump onboard you can visit every inch of town. The weather is varied, mostly hot during spring, but with a good chance of rain as well. However, the weather might change in an instant, so be prepared. The best advice I can give, however, is to breathe and simply enjoy the city. Do not make too many plans, take one day at a time instead and follow the pace of the inhabitants because then you will fall in love with the wonderful city of Medellin.
