The Wax Museum in Madrid

Hi! Not that long ago I was lucky enough to go to one of the most exciting museums you will find in Madrid: The Wax Museum. Although you can't compare it to the marvellous wax museum in London, Madame Tussaud, or to the wax museum in Amsterdam, and in other cities, it's a really fun museum and quite famous. Do you want to have a look inside at the historic characters, painters, writers, actors, sportspeople, murderers, monsters and cartoons? Let's go!

The place

The museum is in the Plaza de Colón, right by the exit to the metro station Colón (line 4). In fact, you can get to the museum without having to use the metro.

Prices

The entrance fee is 19 euros for adults, although you can buy your ticket for cheaper online, where they have an offer of two for one for 30 euros in total. At first, the tickets seem quite expensive and although it's worth visiting this museum, I think the best thing to do is to wait for offers and discounts, if you're lucky, you can sometimes find them online.

The museum

Inaugurated in 1972, this is one of the most popular in the Spanish capital and it doesn't stop surprising the tourists as well as the Madrilenians. The museum is divided up into six sections: History, Arts and Sciences, Stars, Sports, Terror and Children.

History

As well as characters from the oldest civilisations, such as Cleopatra or Julio Cesar, from Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome respectively, in the museum, you can see all the History of Spain, finding out about the different people, like the Catholic Kings, Columbus or Charles V, amongst others. In addition, they haven't missed out any of the most famous characters worldwide, such as Napoleon and Obama.

Arts and Sciences

In this area there are various artists from different fields, such as literature and painting. Here you'll find the great Miguel de Cervantes writing his novel, but also Mario Vargas Llosa, a Peruvian writer. In addition, you'll see Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí exhibiting their art. In the same area, you'll also be able to see some of the most well-known geniuses in the museum, such as Albert Einstein.

Stars

In these rooms, we'll walk on the red carpet with Leonardo Di Caprio, Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, amongst others; we will sing with the Beatles or with Miley Cyrus; we'll dance with Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley and we'll be seduced by the marvellous Marilyn Monroe. But all of that without forgetting the starts in our country. Here you'll also find the legendary Alaska, the popular Alcantara Family, David Bisbal singing for his audience and an elegant Lola Flores, amongst other artists.

Sports

In these corridors you'll see the best professional sports players, from footballers like Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andrés Iniesta, to tennis players such as the great Rafa Nadal, the basketball player Pau Gasol and the racing driver Fernando Alonso, celebrating his victory.

Horror

In a room which is lit up in a special, dark and mysterious way, you'll certainly feel a bit frightened with the most famous characters from horror films, such as Freddy Krueger, Frankenstein, the Mummy and Dracula.

Children's area

And for the little ones there is also a magical room full of lots of characters from our most recent fairy tales and favourite films. We can go sailing with Jack Sparrow, play pranks with Bart Simpson, save the world by helping Spiderman and Batman and even fly "to infinity and beyond" with Woody and Buzz Lightyear (from the Disney film Toy Story).

And if the visit was a little short...

If after going around all the rooms and looking at so many statues you still want more, then you can go on the Horror Train. This attraction is included in the entrance fee. Despite the dungeons at the entrance being a bit scary, the train ride isn't actually that frightening, so... There's even a scene from Star Wars! Do you dare enter? Now you know that Luke Skywalker is waiting for you inside, may the force be with you!

Another good option is to try the RV Simulator, it's a craft you can go on and enjoy a really special virtual experience. This attraction is also included in the entrance fee!

So now you know; if you want to have a good time, this could be a very good option in Madrid. You will come out as... a wax figure!
