What is it like to live in Lyon? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lyon is a beautiful city where you can do a lot of things such as going out at night, hanging out with your friends, going to parties, having a drink on the docks. The landscapes are really nice like Fourvière or Vieux-Lyon (old area).

What is the student lifestyle like?

Being a student in Lyon is really nice because the city is quite big, you have a lot of bars malls to go with friends.

How much does it cost to live in Lyon?

It can be quite expensive so it's necessary to prepare a budget especially when you like to go outside (bars, restaurants, transports, allocations).

Is it difficult to find accommodation? Is there any advice you can give?

It depends. Some districts like Lyon 6, Presqu'Île and old town can be quite expensive but there are a lot of websites to find an allocation. The best advice I can give is to maybe find a roommate to not pay too much and start looking for allocation as soon as possible.

What places would you recommend visiting?

  • Confluence
  • Basilique de Fourvière
  • Vieux-Lyon
  • Quais de Saône
  • Place Bellecour
  • Place des Jacobins
  • Croix-Rousse
  • Place des Terreaux
  • Hôtel de Ville
  • Quais du Rhône
  • Lyon 6

What is the food like? Is it good to eat out? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Food is really good and you have a lot of choices like praline tarts and the quenelles are some local specialities. My favorite spots are Rue Mercière where you have many restaurants and bars, Vieux-Lyon with some Bouchons Lyonnais, Bellecour and near Place des Jacobins.

Is the nightlife good? Where is good to go?

The nightlife in Lyon is really nice, you have good nightclubs like Le Sucre, le Petit Salon or Barrio Club and a lot of bars in all the city.

What advice would you give future students heading to Lyon?

To start looking as soon as possible for accommodation because it can be more expensive in some districts than others.
