Experience in Lyon, France by Anaïs
How did you find living in the city of Lyon? Do you recommend it? How is the city?
It's perhaps a bit of an expensive city in terms of accommodation and daily essentials but it's a very pleasant city to live in. There is always something to do: from a cultural point of view, outings, etc.
Moreover it's a very beautiful city, architecturally speaking. Beautiful.
In a word, it has everything a capital has but on a human scale.
How is student life in Lyon?
I've been a student for 4 years and I've always had good nights out there. There are an abundance of pubs, bars and nightclubs. You can always find an original outing.
Students go out every Thursday evening and there is always a student night somewhere!
How are living costs in Lyon?
As I said further up, it's not a cheap city but it remains affordable, all the same. Accommodation is a bit expensive but if you know the good tips, you get by!
Is it hard to find accommodation in Lyon? Have you got any advice to give?
Apartments to let go very quickly! You can quickly fall into rat holes. However, I live in the Monplaisir quarter, which is a cool quarter to live in (for me it's the best but it's frankly objective). There is everything you could need.
Incidentally, I know a residence with furnished studios in this quarter; which is perfect for students - Lyon Appart Hotel. All bills are included (from electricity to assurance by way of internet! ) and without any administration fees. Basically, the only thing left is to buy food! What's more, it's right next to the Lyon 3 and medicine faculty and not far from Part Dieu. I've only heard good things about it... and the photos on their website are really tempting!

How is the city's food? What are your favourite dishes?
Lyon's cuisine is far from light but that's what's good about it! It's a gastronomic city, brimming with good restaurants. They aren't necessarily overpriced!
In terms of Lyon's cuisine, I love quenelles, onion soup and saucisson (sausage)! I know. It's very cliche but it's very good even so!

Which places do you recommend to see in Lyon?
For green space amateurs, I advise sunbathing in the Tête d'Or park or if you leave the city, the Miribel park where you can escape a bit!
In the city, I like the old Lyon quarters and the Croix Rosse hills for Sunday walks. The Rhône (and now the Saône) docks are super to go on a walk or have a couple of (or ten) drinks in a terrace!
Of course, the unavoidable Fourvière, Traboule, Place des Terreaux and opera and the Confluence, which distinguishes itself by its architecture.

And to eat in Lyon? Can you tell us your favourite places?
I like the Burgers de Papa (the best in Lyon for me) and the Kaffee Berlin for their bagels. To them, I am loyal but otherwise I really like to discover new things. That's why I began a programme 'a restaurant a month' thanks to lafourchette.com. Lastly, the restaurant Monplaisir Coté Cour, where I ate very well!

What places do you recommend to go out in Lyon?
I am an enthusiast of the barges on the quais du Rhône (notably Sirius and Marquis). The docks are super for sitting on the grass with friends and for sipping a beer too!

Afterwards, I really like anywhere with a terrace.
If you're looking for a good pub in terms of its style, I recommend the old Lyon.

Come to Lyon! You will learn a lot here and I'm sure you will have a great time! It's an excellent student city, which remains affordable.
