Erasmus Experience in Lyon, France by Candelario
Why did you choose to go to Lyon, France?
Because it's the 2dn biggest city in France and also because of the agreement between my House University and France's, ECE - Lyon
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
the bebefit was i didn't pay anything at ECE, because of the agreement between universities, other wise i would pay like 4000 euros per semester.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lyon?
They are so crazy, they like to go to erasmus parties as everybody, they like to meet new people coming from all around the world
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lyon to other students?
For Sure, ECE is i think the only university located rigth in the Down Town of Lyon, so you can go anywhere if you have some free courses, also there are some students so kind and helpfull.
What is the food like?
I didn't have too much time to go out and have some diner, because i have my own kitchen and i prepared my own food at home
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lyon?
Too much, the semester i went sudy at Lyon was on fall, so a lot of students arrive in that semester and unfortunately ECE do not have accomodation rooms to their students, we have to looking for by ourselves, and for someone who is not from european continent is more difficult because of the endorsement, but thankfully i found i very nice place at 6 close to Foch
How much does it cost to live in Lyon?
Some erasmus friends coming from germany, spain, poland, austria told me France is quite expensive but for me it was really expensive because i'm coming from Mexico and peso it's quite a lot cheaper that euro.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language is pretty easy, diffifult at first time talking with young french students, they use a lot of familiar vocabulary... courses where good as well, teachers are really comprensive with the international students, but it's really comprensive the language, also there are courses in english.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lyon from your city?
actually it's the only one, by plane, well we don't hace a direct flight from Mexico to Lyon, we have to conect in Paris or Frankfurt or Madrid or London or Amsterdam, so the cheapest depends how cheap you find a flight
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lyon?
there are a lot of club and pubs, but what i like the most was ayers rock and ayers boat, also flannigan's. so if you want to find cheap beer there is Ayers Rock, 1 euro each beer, and if you like chicken wings Flannigan's is your best option
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lyon?
mmmmm i cannot sorry i didn't have the oportunity to go one
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
the "vieux lyon" is so beautiful and cultural, also "Notre Dame de Fourvière" it's in the highest hill in Lyon, looks really asome.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lyon in the future?
go and having fun, Lyon has eveything to have the greatest experiencie ever, just let you guide for the soul of the city and people.
