Studying in Ljubljana

Ljubljana is a capital city of Slovenia and its biggest city. It is also one of the three university cities in Slovenia. The University of Ljubljana is the oldest university in Slovenia and it is ranked in top 500 universities in the world. For a small country like Slovenia, this is huge achievement. Its central location gives you an opportunity to visit other towns and even countries with no problems. The only problem in my opinion is the lack of low-cost airlines here. But that can be solved by going to Trieste or Venice and start your traveling tours from there.

Students enjoy many privilleges in Slovenia. Public transport is very cheap for us, also living in the student dorms. Eating in the restaurants might seem impossible for a student budget in most cities around Europe, but not in Slovenia. Here every student receives food subvention, which gives you an opportunity to go out with your friends and enjoy your meal in most of the restaurants in the university cities. For as little as 3, 5€ per full lunch (soup, main course, salad and fruit) you can be fullfilled for most of the day. If hunger is stronger than you can use your food subvention again after four hours.

Back to life in Ljubljana. Ljubljana is the cultural and economic center of Slovenia, so opportunities here are almost endless if you are active enough to seek them. Free courses, lectures, workshops, volunteering options, events, performances, sport facilities, there is something for everyone. Nightlife is also pretty amazing and it won't hurt your wallet too much. Ljubljana is also very popular among Erasmus students, especially because of all the perks of students life that I wrote about before. Ljubljana is also very small city in comparison with other European capitals, but that is also one the most great things about it. You can get everywhere with your bike or even walking.
