Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

Slovenia was sort of really attractive opportunity for me as I did not know a lot of about the country and I always love to get to some new unknown adventure so when the Ljubljana occasion came to me I said to myself - why not?

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I stayed in Ljubljana for 5 months - from February to June and my Erasmus financial support made almost 1500 euros.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

The best I ever experienced! Students go to university and study a lot of course but during my Erasmus I really appreciated lots of organised activities like 'family' lunch and dinners (sometimes even breakfasts), trips through the country or magic trips abroad and of course the amazing parties that were taking place all the time, every day. There was no time to rest.

Student life in Ljubljana is really great - so cheerful, energetic and full of new experiences and after your life is full of unforgettable memories!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

Without a doubt! There was nothing I could complain about during the whole period I spent in Ljubljana.

The city is awesome, it has specific magical atmosphere which I had always been dreaming about. It is a place full of life, energy and great people - Slovenians are really warmhearted and are willing to help you anytime, no matter what is going on. And Ljubljana is also full of international students so there is no chance to feel alone there.

And about University? I studied at Faculty of Law and I had no bad experiences. I was satisfied with most of the lectures, professors, their style of lecture handling and their access to students as well. Those who like to study hard, there is a great opportunity to make it real. Actually every kind of person is able to find themselves in Ljubljana - a nerd and a party animal for example.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

If we talk about whole living costs including just accomodation expenses and food, maybe 400 euros per month is more than enough. But when we add some social life and trips around (or even abroad), it could be a much higher cost. But the Erasmus period life totally worth any money! And as they say, travelling around the world and experiences with cannot be taken away from you.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

As I am from Slovakia it was not that hard for me to get up with slovenian language (slovak and slovenian language belong to the slavic language group) but in spite of this I attended courses in Zavod ŠOLT in Rožna Dolina (student place for living) and we were learning Slovenian within the international community and it was really great. Basically I think in the middle of the semester anybody can manage basic situation in shops or some services with few Slovenian words. But the course I mentioned above is really cool!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?

I am from the centre of Slovakia - so I first traveled to Vienna and from there I took a train (6 hour journey). The journey was comfortable and nice and also cheaper solution.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

It depends. If you fancy a romantic evening, just go to Prešeren square (the main square in the centre) and take a nice walk near the river (Ljubljanica) or go to visit the Ljubljana castle from where there are incredible views.

If you want to go clubbing, there are so many opportunities. It then depends on the people you are with but I recommend Compañeros, Parlament Pub, Circus, Metelkova, KMŠ and K4.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Ljubljana?

People, just go to Ljubljana and enjoy your life there as much as possible! It is a beautiful city located in amazing country with great people and as I survived it I can say I am sure you will not regret the decision to choose Ljubljana never ever!

Se vidimo v Ljubljani!
