What is it like to live in Ljubljana? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a place where you can see the mountains from the city centre, not too big so you can get around quickly and it is in the centre of Slovenia, which makes it easier to travel around the country. There's always something going on and it has a lot of parks and nature nearby.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

Good. Ljubljana is definitely a student city. Loads of possibilities to eat and drink outside, different events, libraries to study, easy to travel around and it has many student dorms and private student apartments.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

It depends on where you live, student dorms are pretty cheap (cca 70€) compared to private rooms. Private rooms costs cca 200-250€. We have subsidized student meals in many restaurants (check them out on Studentska-prehrana, you can also order delivery on Ehrana), one meal costs between 3-4 EUR on average. Public transport is also subsidized (20€ per month).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ljubljana? Is there any advice you can give?

It's easier if you stay for the whole year. You can choose between student dorms ( Rožna dolina or Kardeljeva ploščad) and private rooms which you can look for on nepremicnine.net, cimri.net, dostop. si/kamrica, bolha.com and in the facebook group Stanovanjce, stanovanjce, kje si?

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is great, you can find restaurants with Slovenian food and also Mexican restaurants, Chinese, Indian etc. We have some vegan/ vegetarian and even gluten free restaurants, also a lot of shops and aisles with food for people with alergies. For fast food option choose burek. My favourite Slovenian food are dödoli from Prekmurje region.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ljubljana?

The old part of the town-Stari, Mestni and Gornji trg, the castle, Tivoli park, Dragon bridge, Cat caffe, and don't miss Metelkova.

Is it good to eat out in Ljubljana? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yep, ther are many restaurants to choose from which offer subsidized meals. A lot of people like Cantina Mexicana in the city centre. For ice creams and cakes go to Cacao and Vigo. The Open Kitchen and Burger and Beer Fest are also popular.

Is the nightlife good in Ljubljana? Where is good to go?

Metelkova, Tovarna Rog, Kino Šišla, Prulček if you like alternative music. If you just go out for drink try Cutty Sark, Irish pub, Premier pub, Tozd, Pr'Skelet... there are so many. I don't usually go to clubs but you can try K4, Cirkus, Top, Parlament.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ljubljana?

You'll love the city anyway but go travel around the country, the nature is awesome (Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Bovec... ), the seaside is nice (Piran, Portorož) and if you're not up for climbing Triglav at least try Šmarna Gora.
