What is it like to live in Ljubljana? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Ljubljana is amazing city in small country Slovenia. It is in centre of country and you can access all mayor places in complete country in 1h car driving time. You can reach Alps in winter and go to ski, you can reach coast in summer and go to swimming. You need to look on Ljubljana as Slovenia as we are so small. People are very nice and practically everybody speaks English, but we have mayor other foreign languages as Croatian, Italian and German. You will also find people speak Spanish due to Mexican and Spanish telenovelas.

Slight problem is public transport but it is getting better now especially in Ljubljana. Prices as similar to European cities when you go out to party or for a coffee as you can pay for coffee 1, 2 euro or also 5. So you need to know what is your budget.

You need to come here really!

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

It is perfect city for students. We don`t have campus style with all faculties at one place but all of them are all over the city. All can be reached with bus transportation if you don`t live close to them. We have students houses where most of them live but it is also easy to find private room or shared flat. Prices of these are lower than in rest of Europe. Night life is very good and you will enjoy it very much.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

You have great advantage in Slovenia as student. You will get option to eat in all mayor restaurants with student card. Country pays to every student also all Erasmus students from other countries. In average you will pay for a meal with salad, main meal, desert (or any other combination of 3 courses) 3 euros. If you go to really high end restaurant you will pay with student card 5-6 euros where people without would pay more than 20 euros for same food. Or for example if you go for pizza, you will pay max 3, 7 euros for big Pizza that you will have problems to eat all but very good.

This is called "Studentski boni". Normally you will got explained but if not, ask!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ljubljana? Is there any advice you can give?

Normally not and prices are lower than in Europe.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is amazing... all kinds of food. Typical Slovenian is amazing, but you will find all very good Italian food, Mexican, Spanish, Balkan (the best! - "čevapi" are amazing),... and others.... really good.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ljubljana?

I would say in Slovenia:

• Ljubljana, you will soon see mayor stuff
• Lake Bled
• Lake Bohinj
• Postojna cave
• "Predjamski grad"
• Logarska dolina
• Prekmurje
• Slovenian coast (+ drive to Croatia also... very close but great)
• Go to Zagreb to Croatia...amazing city 1h 20 min away... also train connection is good
• Triglav

And in every region! Try their typical food.

Is it good to eat out in Ljubljana? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Almost everywhere is good. Especially go with student card like explained above... you will get everywhere amazing food for few euros! Only place in Europe like this.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ljubljana?

Just come and you will see... the biggest surprise ever for you I am sure. And you will want to come back!
