Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

I had to go abroad for doing research (was compulsory), wanted to stay within Europe, had been in Ljubljana before (two days) and remembered I liked the place. Also the Slovenians' proficiency in English was important for my research (doing interviews, etc. ).

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

5 months, around a 1000 euros.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

A relaxed small-but-not-too-small city with a rich student life, enough to do almost every day, even in the 'low season' (October, November). Especially for exchange students it's nice, there's a real Erasmus community and everybody wants to make the best out of their stay here, so almost daily some of your friends will propose you to go out, have food or a drink or do something nice. Also a good location for doing weekend trips (Vienna, Venice, national parks, Croatia).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

Definitely. Especially because of the small size (and still a lot going on), which I think is nice for an Erasmus period. You can really get to know the city.

What is the food like?

Very diverse, and very cheap with the student discount system. We often go out for a lunch or dinner in a restaurant, not only 'Slovene' but also Italian, Asian, etc. Can be really nice and cheap.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?

Nope, found mine on a list of vacant rooms that is edited by the University (for foreign students who didn't manage to find a place in the dorms).

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

Going out (for drinks and food) is relatively cheap compared to north-western Europe, but supermarkets have similar prices as in north-western Europe.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Language is not easy. I did a 3-weeks language course offered by the University. This was really nice to meet other exchange students, but you only learn the sheer basics.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?

Take the plane to Venice airport and from there take a minibus (around 3 hours to Ljubljana from the airport).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

Metelkova Mesto, ROG, Zoo, Cirkus, riverside pubs, Irish pubs.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ljubljana?

There's a lot, check the website of the student discount service.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Museums, art galleries, climb the castle hill.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ljubljana in the future?

Do it, it will be really nice!
