Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

I heard that courses were held in English, and I had positive feedback from a girl from my university who went there one year before me. Also, it is quite near my hometown.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship is 10 months long. I received 230€ per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

In Ljubljana, you can do lots of interesting things if you just look for them. It is a small city even if it is a Capital city, but it has basically everything you need and also there are some advantages for students: free or discounted sport activities, cheap prices in almost all restaurants, parties, organized trips.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

I would recommend it. Just, don't expect your courses and exams to be easy, especially if you are medical students.

What is the food like?

I am Italian, so don't ask me... I am joking!. Slovenian food has two things not to miss: meat and sweets. They are really good, especially cakes. And, thanks to the super cheap student meals system, expect to gain some weight.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?

Finding a room in a flat for less than one entire year can be quite challenging. My advice is to start looking for it in advance.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

Life costs less than in other Capital cities, especially for what concerns food.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Slovene language is really hard to learn, unless you come from other nearby countries in the Balkans. The University usually organizes a free language course for incoming students before the beginning of the academic year. Be aware that this is not so useful because you need years to learn this language. The positive thing is that most of people know English, and young people especially.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?

It is quite challenging to reach Ljubljana by train, since Italy and Slovenia have almost no train connections. Going by car is the easiest way, and Blablacar can be life-saving.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

There are some nice clubs: if you prefer an alternative/underground atmosphere, try Metelkova or k4 club. If you are more for fancy clubs try Top Six. Also, cirkus is a nice disco.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ljubljana?

At Fany and Mary you can have really good hamburgers for a more than honest price; if you like oriental food try DaBuda; I still didn't try a lot of restaurants so my advice so far is not so helpful about this.
