Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

I chose Ljubljana because the prices are quite cheap, people speak good English, the city has a human size that makes you move easily, and you can travel a lot due to the good position of Slovenia in Europe.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

10 months at the faculty with a scholarship of 2500€.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

In the faculty of Social sciences, we have a lot of free time. It is required to assist in some courses but not all, and most of the time you study on your own. Being a student in Ljubljana presents a lot of advantages: cheap meals, parties, activities, associations...

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

Yes definitely! If you like to live in a cozy city and if you are close to nature, Ljubljana is perfect!

What is the food like?

The food is not amazing, but with the student coupons you can eat a good meal for 2€ in restaurants. They have a lot of pizzas, Italians food, Balkans food, but you can also find Asian, Indian restaurants. Slovene food is mainly composed of meat, potatoes, wine.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?

You can choose to live in the dormitories for 100€ per month and share your room, but you have to apply early. Otherwise, it is quite difficult to find a place in the centre unless you are yourself present in Ljubljana.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

For me, private accommodation with shared room, 220€ without costs. Costs are around 40€ per month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Hopefully, the courses are in English. You can learn Slovene if you want to, but it is not that useful since everybody speaks English. There are also languages lessons in the faculty (social sciences).

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?

Bus or plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

There are plenty of nice bars, like the Zoo. For Erasmus, the famous one is Parliament. For alternative music, the best is to go to Metelkova. About the clubs, Cirkus, Top 6 and K4 are nice.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ljubljana?

Dabuda for thaï food, Foculus for pizzas.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Plenty of museums in Ljubljana. Metelkova by day is a must to do. Inside the castle there are always some activities. You can also go to the opera for less than 10€.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ljubljana in the future?

Don't live too far from the center!

And enjoy the city and its many possibilities.
