Erasmus Experience in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Elena
Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?
I chose this city, because, out of my options, it was the one where I would have the most opportunity to speak English, and because I went to look at photos, videos and programmes about Ljubljana one day and then I had no doubts about it.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My grant was for three months, I was doing an internship in the hospital, and my grant was for around €350 a month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?
There are a lot of students, a lot more than I'd imagined. There's always something to do, some party to turn to, someone around to have a drink with... Ljubljana is full of Erasmus students.
Would you recommend the city and the university of Ljubljana to other students?
I'd recommend it 100%. It's a very charming city, it's full of hidden beauty and it's in a country where you can find wonderful things just a few kilometres away from the city.
What is the food like there?
As for the food, you can find a bit of everything there. There are all different kinds of restaurants.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Ljubljana?
No, the university will offer you a place in a residence, but I didn't choose to take the offer because it wasn't convenient for me and it was too far away from the hospital. But if you're looking for a flat, I'd recommend you do so in advance, don't leave it until the last minute.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your home city?
The cheap is to fly to Trieste or Venice and then taking the bus to Ljubljana.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Ljubljana?
There are a lot of places to choose from... It depends on your music taste. There's Cirkus, Shooters, K4, Top Six... And then there's the more alternative area, which isn't bad at all, called Metelkova.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Ljubljana in the future?
Don't think twice about coming here for a few months, you won't regret it.
