Why did you choose to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia?

I wanted to get to know the capital of a small country.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship lasted for 3 months, i recieved 440 euros each month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ljubljana?

Ljubljana is a student city, the people try to get everything in favor of students, so students have a lot of discounts, even in restaurants and bars. If you want to go out, have fun, local people might offer 2 or 3 places, but be independent and go exploring on your own, because there are a lot of fun and interesting places for someone who is just getting to know Ljubljana.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ljubljana to other students?

I would recomend the citiy, it is so much different from other capitals, big or small. As for the university, i haven't studied at the university, i was on a student job education at a croatian tourst board in Slovenia.

What is the food like?

Since I'm croatian, thr food was not so different and new. Plus, I cook for myself, and I dwont eat out much.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ljubljana?

I found accomodation online, it didn't cost me anything.

How much does it cost to live in Ljubljana?

Ljubljana is expensive for living. I lived in the city centre, but in the more quiet part next to the river, and my 60m2 apartment cost less less then 200 euros with all the expences. I had 3 roomates, and 10 minute walk to the main square. Food is cheap, but going out, eating and drinking out is very expensive, comparing to Croatia.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Again, since i'm croatian, and we have similar languages, it was not hard for me to learn slovenian. I still don't understand everything, but i got the most in three monts. I guess there are courses, at least there should be.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ljubljana from your city?

by train, cheapest and quickest. And the train station is 10 minute walk from the centre

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Ljubljana?

there are a lot of fun bars by the river Ljubljanica. But there is a lot of things for everyone. Each city guide has a few places for everyones taste.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ljubljana?

The best, but also the most expencive restaurant is Spajza. Save some money and go there. You wont regret it.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Ljubljana is a small town, everything is within reach and also in tourst guids. But i recomend to go on a fet trips around Slovenia. Like the lake Bled, Bohinj, river Soca, Postojina cave.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ljubljana in the future?

Ljubljana is small, as is Slovenia. Dont stick to one place, choose another each time you go out, explore the city and the rest of the country. If you are there in winter, go skiing, in summer, go to the lakes to swimm. By being in Ljubljana, you are in the centre of Slovenia, everything is close. Enjoy!
